I have used Fiio products for many years and the M11s is another solid product, especially at $300 off.The user interface based on Android 10, is user-friendly and easy to navigate. There are 4.4mm, 3.5mm, and 2.5mm headset connectors, providing a nice selection of options. The audio quality is open and detailed and good for a selection of music.Highly recommended.

Excellent device. This M11 Plus ESS is my first ever DAP after diving head first into the audiophile world a couple years ago, and though I haven’t owned/tried other DAPs, my satisfaction heavily outweighs the desire to do so. The improvement in sound quality is quite noticeable compared to the FiiO BTR7. It’s powerful enough for even my highest impedance headphones, even if they require almost maxing out the volume. It makes IEMs shine. I’m writing this with ThieAudio Monarch MkIII plugged in and might start drooling. The device lags a little when running Tidal, but Tidal is just kind of glitchy in general. The Android interface gets the job done. The screen is big, bright and high enough res. Battery life is good if you aren’t listening at too high of volume for too long which you should do anyway. The device is a bit heavy and bulky but that’s because of the battery and all of the tech! It’s beautiful with the case off and feels sturdy. Like many people, I found the volume slider way too sensitive and inconveniently placed so I turned it off in favor of click click clicking away. I only ever use the 4.4mm input but it’s nice that it has the 3.5mm and 2.5mm where many other DAPs only appear to have two of the three. I’m not going to say this is my endgame DAP, but it has stayed put while many a headphone, amp, and miscellaneous gadget has come and gone.

Just letting people know that the unit I received is the LTD version. Wow… what a great DAP. I’m comparing this to my older OPUS #2 which I love and this one is just as good. I’m listening with my Noble Kaiser 10 and the detail and resolution is sublime. Absolutely worth the money.

I own a AK SP1000 over four years, starting to burden by its weight (.86 lb). After reading a few reviews, I believed the Fiio 11 plus (.65 lb) may be a good choice for 1/4 less in weight! Initial listening proved that the M11 plus is a very high quality sound DAP. I particularly love that for the price level, it has 3.5mm, 2.5mm and 4.4mm (single & balanced) headphone outputs. I can easily put all my headphones or IEM in without a need for adapters.
Like any sound gears, the M11 Plus do need some break in to show what it really is. The fist week it shows little changes, sounds quite impressive (resolution and image fullness), except a little forward (I will tell you what headphone or IEMs were used in this evaluation). After two weeks, it was starting to sound a bit more warm but still a little hard and forwarding. The sound was good nonetheless. I put in about 5 hrs a day or slightly less during the break in period. After 3.5 weeks I found the entire audio balance turned to a little lean, cold and dry, not quite to my taste. This expression occurred in most head speakers I have here (Audeze LCD-X, Focal Radiance, SONY MDR Z-7, Campfire Andromeda IEM, Cardas A8 IEM). To be fair, the Cardas A8 was doing well with M11 plus. Audeze LCD-X was almost good, only a bit lack of body even after my attempt to compensate it by EQ adjustment. My Astell&Kern SP1000 also has certain tone balance and uptight like the M11 Plus’s — cold forward style. Except less to that and not as dry. I must give credit to the M11 Plus that it actually has equal or better high frequency extensions over the SP1000. Also got better dynamic and more power to drive headphone than the SP1000’s. If I were to rate M11 plus based on my preference with my current headphone collection, it will be three stars. I gave it four stars was believing that some people may prefer it more, or there are headphone may be able to fully reveal the quality of M11 Plus than what I have.

I am an extremely critical listener when it comes to music, so it took me quite a while to choose this device. I researched for over a year, and this one had the most for the price range, and once I was able to use it I am very happy with it. The ONLY two criticisms I could have (not really criticisms but an observation) is the EQ section and the physical size. You must be very careful when adjusting it and the output level within the EQ, it can and will introduce a lot of distortion if overdriven. I am not really sure why the EQ circuit has an independent level control built within, but just be judicious if you are going to adjust the EQ. Also the player is not small or particularly light so keep that in mind. Other than that, I have found it to be a great player, and I do really like the Android side for those times when you are not critically listening, tho that sounds very good as well. The BT section also impressed me since usually it is only good for background or casual listening. Summing all this up, I don’t think you can find a better overall solution for portable listening for the price point.
Larry Fridlikh –
I play mostly hi-res flacs (24/96). The sound generally is good. Highs could be more defined but generally it’s fine.
The player is very sensitive to the recording quality. Good recorded album will simply shine on 11 Plus but so-so recorded albums sound worse than they would on a cheap phone.
It is powerful enough for my Focal Elegia, but for HifiMan Sundara I have to switch to High Gain even with balanced cable.
Fiio music app is really bad, terrible UX. I use UAPP in Bit-Perfect mode.
Sliding volume control is bad, too sensitive, I turned it off. A volume knob would be a lot better option.
Conclusion: built like a tank and decent sounding device

In 2021, I purchased the FiiO M11 Pro to replace my aging Astell&Kern AK380. As much as I enjoyed the AK380, the M11 Pro is all around the better digital audio player and substantially less expensive. I recently purchased the M11 Plus, ESS version. I pondered getting the LTD version but decided to get the ESS version for the better specs and thinking that the DAC chips would make little if any difference in the sound quality. I don’t regret that decision because I love the sound of the M11 Plus ESS. The sound of my earbuds (wired and wireless) seem to be a little better on the M11 Plus compared to the M11 Pro. Not a leap forward but a noticeable improvement. Especially for the Jabra Elite 85t and 7 Pro that use the AAC codec. The M11 Pro does not support AAC but the M11 Plus does and it makes a significant difference. It breaths life into the 85t and 7 Pro. The aptX and LDAC codecs are supported by both the Pro and Plus but the Sennheiser MTW2 and Sony XM4 sound slightly better with the Plus. It could be that I’m interpreting the slight difference in sound between the AKM and ESS DAC chips as better for the ESS. I also evaluated the sound quality with the Shure SE846 and Westone W60 and was impressed by what I heard. Of course, sound quality is entirely subjective and you may not feel the same. I can only say that, to me, the M11 Pro, which uses AKM AK4497 chips, sounds sweeter (smoother) and somewhat laid-back while the M11 Plus, which uses ESS Saber ES9068AS chips, sound clearer and more aggressive. Your preference will determine which you should buy. However, the LTD version is in short supply due to limited availability of the AK4497 DAC chips.
All the players I’ve previously owned used Burr-Brown, Cirrus Logic or AKM DAC chips. The M11 Plus is the first player I’ve owned that uses an ESS Sabre DAC chip and I’m really enjoying it. The M11 Plus ESS is an exceptionally good player at this price point. I can’t imagine what the M17 sounds like. However, after hearing the M11 Plus, I have no desire to audition the M17. I’m happy with the M11 Plus.
My only “less than positive” comments are in regard to its size, weight and interface. The M11 Plus is larger and heavier than the M11 Pro. The Pro felt comfortable in my hand while the Plus feels a little awkward and heavy. The larger screen is nice but not really necessary. I would have liked the Plus better if it were similar in size and weight to the Pro. The touch volume slider is too sensitive and I often change the volume without intending to. It’s also placed right where my thumb rests when I hold the player in my left hand. That was not working for me so I disabled the volume touch slider in the setup options and use just the rocker function of the volume switch to make changes. The screen interface is also different so there is a small learning curve involved if you upgrade from the Pro to the Plus. Not a disaster but a little inconvenient if you plan to use both like I do.
I rate the M11 Plus ESS at 4.5 stars rounded up to 5. It is the best digital audio player I have owned at any price point.
Ryan Brady –
This is a fantastic device. Really found this DAP to be an outstanding device to use. The build quality is absolutely top notch. It feels super solid in the hand, and looks very nice out of the leather case. The sound quality is at the limit of my ability to discern details and fantastic with every type of headphone I used. The android interface is great and I never experienced any hiccups or slowdowns while using the player. Battery life is good for a player this powerful. The only downsides from my perspective are 1) this device is a bit of a tank, it is portable, but on the heavier side and pretty big overall. 2) I’m not a huge fan of the volume slider that Fiio is using on their devices now.. I think it’s better than a knob, if the knob feels cheap, but it’s not my favorite interaction.I would highly recommend this player to anyone looking for a great sounding DAP.
Wilco69 –
Touch screen is bright and responsive. Sound customization is very easy to suit personal tastes. Number of outputs covers all of my needs whether it’s headphones or as a source for my 2 channel audio system. Handles all of my digital file types.
